kemiDirector of ashebo studied at Birmingham University gaining a B’Phil in Youth and Community Studies and an MA in Applied Community Studies.
Kemi has over 25 years of community work experience. She worked for Redditch Borough Council as a Youth Project Officer for 5 years, then went on to work for Birmingham City Council (BCC) as part of the Central Strategic Community and Play Team for 13 years.

As the Head of Curriculum she promoted and commissioned high quality services across Birmingham through community development, community work and play provision. Kemi is highly skilled in needs assessment and strategic planning; she developed and implemented frameworks and indicators for monitoring the quality and quantity of community and play services.

She created policies and procedures for service delivery.  She has excellent management and leadership skills and a proven ability to complete projects to a high standard.
She was the lead for developing the Birmingham Play Strategy 2008 – 2012 which drew down 3.3 Million Big Lottery Funding. The funding refurbished parks and play areas in Birmingham and a detached play project for children aged 4 to 14, providing increased free play opportunities.

She has managed, developed and delivered training for many years covering a wide range of social subjects.

While employed at BCC she managed a training unit that delivered community and play work qualifying courses alongside essential training for staff.

She is currently a visiting lecturer at De Montfort University covering issues of identity, culture, race, gender and social policy. Her delivery style enables space for dialogue, analysis and reflection and therefore deconstructing labels and conditioning.

Kemi is one of the co founders of Families in Focus a voluntary organisation established in 2001, it provides provision which addresses issues of inequality.
They have been successful in a number of funding applications, which has enabled them to work with children, young people and families across Birmingham.
On an annual basis they take families away on camping trips to experience the great outdoors.
